NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR INFORMAL SETTLEMENT UPGRADING: Stakeholder meeting and networking event
Most of the population in Namibia today lives in an urban area, and most of those living there lives in an informal settlement. While the challenges are considerable, Namibia is host to an array of practices that have proven to positively impact living conditions in these spaces. A coalition of stakeholders involved in informal settlement upgrading argue that increased coordination will improve current initiatives and catalyse a process of scaling-up upgrading efforts nationwide. The stakeholders agreed to coordinate through a National Alliance for Informal Settlement Upgrading (http://nationalalliance.nust.na), a coalition of implementing partners seeking to expand and accelerate the improvement of living conditions for the urban poor in Namibia. Partners so far include the Namibia Housing Action Group (NHAG) and the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN); the Namibia Association of Local Authorities Officials (NALAO); the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN); the Civil Society Organisations Working Group on Land Reform (CSO-WGLR); and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
This event will combine a platform for self-organisation among the Secretariat of the Alliance and key partners (stakeholder meeting), with a networking event for engaging a wider array of stakeholders to discuss the Alliance informally.
